After crossing the Riviera dei Fiori, we will find a fairy tales village. The village of Dolceacqua, one of the most picturesque villages in the area, which in 1884 attracted Claude Monet, who painted the “Ponte Vecchio.” After entering through the medieval bridge over the River Nervia, we will climb the Doria Castle and walk on the cobblestone streets and taste some local wine, the rossese or some good olive oil.
There was once a small Italian town called Bussana Vecchia, which was destroy by a tremendous earthquake that killed more than 2000 persons the 23 february of 1887. The Village was declared dangerous and abandoned, come with me and discover the new life of this particular place opposite to a Monaco tour.
Finally we come back though the coast, passing by Seborga, where we will have a coffee in the old town. The town is surrounded by olive trees and mimosas, known officially as “Sovereign Principality of Seborga.” The town currently occupies an area of 14 kilometers and its flag is blue and white. It is a little village in what we call the Flowers Riviera. The village self-proclaimed as independent, but this has not been recognized by Italy. It has its own currency, passport and license plates. This is not a joke or a commercial artifice, these people have organized and have rescued an old Templar principality whose writings were lost in time when Italy was unified in 1861.
We will head back through the mountains with fabulous views of Menton, Monaco, Eze and Saint Jean-Cap-Ferrat.
